Not long ago it was easy to shock people. Even an avant-garde performance on a stage was enough to shock people. The premiere of a well-known ballet ‘The Rite of Spring’ in 1913 made the audience sit up because the nature of choreography and music was experimental, not conforming to the ethos of accepted art.

Can art shock today? Certainly not; because nudity and impolite language have ceased to be scandalous. Yet in our mundane life, shocking toys can spring a lot of surprises.

Simply rig an ordinary pen to give your unsuspecting guest an electric shock when he or she clicks it open. It is easy to build up this prank. Or merge a metal pen with an igniter of a lighter- and watch the fun.

Perhaps you can even convert your ordinary door handle into a riotous shenanigan by pulling a fast one on anyone who uses the door.

Thankfully harmless fun is easily procurable. No hassles. All one needs to do is browse the internet and there you are. Hand shake shockers, shocking pens, shocking staplers or a shocking candy jar – the innovativeness seem endless.

Commonplace people like us are fortunate to have the freedom to play pranks with our colleagues and friends. Mercifully, not like the Australian radio station that made a hoax call to the London Hospital where the pregnant Duchess of Cambridge was being treated. It was a weird practical joke that resulted in the self inflicted death of an Indian nurse.

Our humdrum tedious lives need excitement. That is why we play tricks on each other. Good shenanigans are acceptable with friends and families alike. They create riotous laughs all around.

Just take care not to injure anyone with shocking toys – to either people or animals.  If you cause damage to anything be prepared to replace the item.
